Why should I travel with the USF Alumni Association?

USF has rapidly become a global leader in education and research. Increasingly, current USF students are encouraged to travel abroad to gain an appreciation for other cultures and to enrich their educational experiences. The USF Alumni Association believes that this passion for learning should continue after leaving the university, and travel is an important element in a life-long pursuit of learning. Our goal is to select tours that are not only desirable from a vacation or sightseeing perspective, but that also offer historic or cultural elements that create a meaningful, and often life-changing, experience for our travelers.

In addition to the educational opportunities afforded by traveling with the USF Alumni Association, travelers also experience the benefits of organized group travel. You are guaranteed to meet like-minded, adventurous people in your group! Plus, your only responsibilities during your trip are to relax, learn something new and have fun. Every detail, from transportation and lodging to sightseeing activities, is taken care of so that your trip is 100 percent worry-free. Tours are planned and managed by reputable tour operators vetted and hand-picked by the Alumni Association. The tour operators we work with cater only to other educational/alumni groups -- people like you who enjoy learning and have a passion for their institution.

Can non-alumni travel with the program?

Yes! The more, the merrier. As long as you love USF, we would love to have you on one of our tours. Some trips do have age restrictions for children (mainly the cruises). We can provide information on policies for specific trips.

Our Tour Partners

Our trips are coordinated by highly regarded tour operators who are experts in providing excellent group travel experiences. Our tour operators work with many other major university alumni associations around the country, such as the University of Florida, Michigan State, the University of North Carolina, Notre Dame, and the University of Alabama, to name a few. At least one professional from the tour operator – as well as a representative from USF when possible – accompanies the group on every tour. These tour directors are on hand to act as a concierge for your trip and will help troubleshoot problems, answer questions about the itinerary or sites you'll be visiting, and provide recommendations for restaurants, excursions, etc.

Reservations

How to Book
All reservations must be booked directly with the tour provider for the specific trip you are interested in. Contact information for the tour provider can be found in the description of each tour. You may also fill out a short form online if you would like a representative to contact you about a particular tour.

Deposits and Final Payments
A deposit is required to reserve your space on a trip, with final payment generally due 90 to 100 days before the tour departs. Payments will be made directly to the tour provider. While payment plans are generally not offered, you can make incremental payments to the tour provider up until your balance is due. Specific questions about payment options should be directed to the tour provider.

When to Book
As soon as possible! Because we often share a departure with other university alumni groups, a limited amount of space on each tour is available for our group. The best cabins and rooms are booked quickly, usually only a month or two after the trip is announced. Special pricing and other incentives are also sometimes available for booking early. To avoid disappointment, we recommend making your deposit to hold your reservation as soon as you know you'd like to join us on a trip.

Travelers with Physical Limitations

To fully take part in and enjoy the travel experience, participants need to be in good physical and mental health. Many trips require considerable walking, often on hilly or uneven surfaces. Sometimes there are also numerous steps and stairs, some without handrails. Please discuss your physical constraints at the time of registration so that we can advise you of the physical requirements of the specific trip you are interested in and describe the accessibility in the area you plan to visit. Participants who require assistance for a disability must be accompanied by a traveling companion capable of and responsible for providing the required assistance. Traveling companions cannot and will not be provided by the tour operator or the USF Alumni Association.

Cancellation Policy

Tour participants are subject to the cancellation and refund policies governing the particular trip for which they are registered. In some cases, cancellation penalties can be up to 100 percent of the trip cost. Please contact the tour provider as soon as possible when you learn you may need to cancel your trip.

Recommendations:

• Please carefully read the cancellation policy for your specific trip, which can be found in the trip brochure.
• To maximize refunds, we urge trip participants to purchase travel insurance that covers trip cancellation, and to consider "Cancel for any reason" coverage.

Travel/Cancellation Insurance

It is strongly recommended that you purchase travel insurance that covers trip cancellation and/or interruption, baggage loss or damage, emergency medical coverage and evacuation, and all accidents that might take place while (or before) traveling. You will receive insurance information with your tour confirmation packet but are not obligated to use our provider. Please pay close attention to stipulations about insuring a pre-existing condition and/or “cancel for any reason” coverage.
