At each commencement, this award recognizes undergraduates who've completed their degrees with the highest cumulative GPA of 4.0. It is presented by the Alumni Association in honor of 1962 charter USF graduates Lucas King and Evelyn O'Neal.
Each King O’Neal Scholar will receive the following:
How are students selected for the King O’Neal Award?
The Office of the Registrar will review the records of each student who has applied for graduation in that semester. Students with an overall GPA of 4.0 are considered candidates for the King O’Neal Scholar Award. Students do not apply for this award.
Is the GPA determined by the classes I took at USF only?
No. The GPA is determined by all undergraduate classes taken at any accredited college or university. This includes undergraduate classes taken at another institution, including community college and dual enrollment classes taken in high school.
When would I be notified if I am a King O’Neal Scholar?
Student candidates for the King O’Neal Scholar Award will be notified 45-60 days prior to the commencement ceremony they applied to participate in. Students will be notified by email.
What if I have a 4.0 GPA but did not receive an email?
First, check that your overall GPA is a 4.0 and not just your USF GPA. Second, check the privacy settings you have designated for your USF records.
Students who have elected certain levels of privacy for their records will not have their names published in the commencement ceremony program and will not be included in any third-party releases. If a student wishes to be included in the release, they must notify graduation@usf.edu in writing by the fourth week of the semester they plan to graduate.
Who do I contact if I have questions about the King O’Neal Scholar Award?
Email LaToya Wider (lwider@usf.edu) if you have questions about the award.
