Zak Boggs, Biomedical Sciences `08, Earns Fulbright Scholarship to United Kingdom

Zak Boggs, Biomedical Sciences `08 & M.S. Marketing `10, has been awarded a Fulbright scholarship to study in the United Kingdom. He will pursue a Master's degree in Medical Sciences at Leicester University, with a focus on examining potential cancer treatment through gene splicing.

Boggs is currently a professional soccer player with the New England Revolution of Major League Soccer (MLS) and was recognized as Most Humanitarian Player of the 2012 year recently. Boggs aspires to earn an MD/Ph.D degree and hopes to be a contributor to cancer research.

While at USF, Boggs was the Captain of the Men’s Soccer Team and was honored as the USF Student-Athlete of the year, the Big East Scholar-Athlete of the year, and as an ESPN 1st Team Scholar All-American. He was also awarded the John Wooden Citizenship Cup by Athletes for a Better World. Boggs has an extensive community service record with Moffitt Cancer Center, Boston Children’s Hospital, and as a volunteer assistant coach for the Foxboro High School Soccer team. The Fulbright grant will cover the costs of round-trip transportation to the UK, and maintenance for the academic year.
