Steering Committee Meeting 6/17/09

Greetings,

 

We had a productive meeting last night at Fish Tales.  Present were Bruce Barber, Beau Suthard, Andy Squires, Joe Donnelly, and Mark Hafen.  Here are the main ideas that we discussed.

 

1. Participating in the Pinellas County Chapter's annual Tailgate Party event to get a feel for what other groups are doing.  Beau is looking into this.

 

2. Participating in some community activity service, perhaps with the Pinellas County chapter at Ronald McDonald House, or as part the the annual coastal cleanup.  Beau and Andy are checking on those events.

 

3. Establishing a Marine Science Alumni scholarship fund.  We need to raise $25,000 in order to provide an annual scholarship of $1,000.

 

4. To start raising funds, Beau will look into costs associated with producing our own Marine Science Alumni Society logo shirts.

 

5. Also, Andy will look into finding restaurants that are willing to host our group and either give us a discount or better yet, give us a tax-deductable contribution of 10% of the proceeds.  Bruce and Andy will investigate this further.

 

6. Beau is working on a flyer describing our organization that we will use for promotional purposes and raising awareness of our group.

 

7. Mark has updated the web page to include a link to our Facebook page.  Please sign up and invite your alumni friends to join.  We are still trying to get updated contact information for many alums and are hoping this will help "get the word out".
